Bethlehem College Ashfield’s 2021 Year 12 students have blitzed the HSC in a challenging year.

More than 40 per cent of Bethlehem students achieved results in the top two bands in all of their courses. It is a feat which helped the school to climb 74 places on the state’s academic leader board, according to Daily Telegraph rankings*.

Principal Ann Freeman said the Bethlehem community was so proud of the hard work and diligence that its HSC students had shown over two challenging years due to remote learning during COVID lockdowns.

Their success follows a concerted effort to enhance students’ academic confidence and adopt new ways of teaching and learning at the college.

“We utilised opportunities to broaden the girls’ knowledge through a variety of online tools” – Ann Freeman

“As a school, we remained positive and encouraging of each other throughout the year, always having faith in our girls’ abilities,” Ms Freeman said.

“The girls responded well to online practice examinations and subject masterclasses.”

Individuals also shone among their peers across NSW. College dux Dimitra Anthony placed third in the state in History Extension and featured on NESA’s all round achievers list.

All-round Achievers receive a result in the highest band possible in 10 or more HSC units.

Maria Solimon placed 17th in the state in Mathematics Advanced while only in Year 11, after being accelerated in the subject since Year 9.
